Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” Ps. 82:3-4
A Chance to Die
When the Lord Jesus rescued me from self, sin, and Satan I began to read books of missionaries from centuries past who changed the world. One was Amy Carmichael who served in India for 55 years without furlough and wrote 35 books about missionary work. She went to Bangalore, India and began to rescue girls and young women who were forced into prostitution. Hindu temple children were primarily young girls dedicated to the gods, then usually forced into prostitution to earn money for the priests. Families often sold their children to the temples if they did not want them or if they needed extra money. While serving in India, Carmichael received a letter from a young lady who was considering life as a missionary, asking, "What is missionary life like?" Carmichael wrote back, "Missionary life is simply, a chance to die.”
A Chance to Live
Hands of Hope started 21 years ago with a mission, vision, and passion to give children at risk in Zimbabwe, “a chance to live.” Yolanda is one such person who is now living with hope in Jesus. Before coming to our Hillside home in Bulawayo she was staying with her grandparents. Sadly, both of grandparents died and she had lost many years of schooling. Pastor Gideon and his wife Jennifer took her into the church family and into their arms. We thank our Rescuer for His gracious and tender work in her heart. She loves the Lord Jesus and is now part of the Church’s Praise and Worship team. Her desire is to grow in Christ and use her God given talents for the honor of His name. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 63:3-4; “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you and I will praise you as long as I live and, in your name, I will lift up my hands.”
There is only one Amy Carmichael, but by the grace of God we through your prayers and faithful generosity are rescuing and lifting children from hard places up from the ash heap. We humbly thank you!
