Zimbabawe Hunger Crisis

The Associated Press recently reported that the United Nations has issued a new statement regarding the hunger crisis in Zimbabwe. “Harare, Zimbabwe — Zimbabwe, where millions of people already face acute hunger, could sink deeper into crisis as the coronavirus pandemic takes a toll on the country’s troubled economy and food supply, United Nations agencies said in a new report. The southern African nation is in the midst of “one of the world’s top global food crises,” the U.N. children’s agency, the World Food Program (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization said in the report released Monday. More than 4 million rural people, “are in need of urgent action.” More than half of Zimbabwe’s 15 million people need food assistance due to droughts, floods, and worsening economic problems, according to WFP, which was already assisting about 3.5 million people well before the pandemic.”

HOH’s April Vacation Bible School

We are in the 5th week of “lock down” and because of this we haven’t been able to feed our 1800 children except in our residential homes as they are prohibited from feeding at our churches. In addition, we normally have 3 VBS week long camps for 150 children during April that were cancelled. However, our HOH staff under Gari’s (HOH National Project Administrator) leadership provided 12 of our residential homes with a 5 day VBS curriculum that was an ecouragement to our children. Another blessing was that the older children in our homes were able to minister along side our caregivers to the younger children.

The VBS material that was created was based on Bible verses from the book of Romans which were focused on the heart of the gospel. The Bible stories, memory verses, crafts, songs and games all blended together to provide a great week of spiritual enrichment for all involved.

We hope our “lock down” ends on May 3rd so that we can distribute food to our 30 transformational and feeding centers so our children can have food. We are trying to think of creative ways to help our children should the “lock down” continue. We can’t adequtely express in words our sincere thanks for your love and support during this historic worldwide crisis. Please keep praying for us and be assured of our prayers for all of you!
