August 2022

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Garikai Masuka as the new Zimbabwe National Director of Hands of Hope. Gari officially starts this month, and this newsletter is from his own hand!

“Recently, Hands of Hope celebrated 20 years of ministry. I joined HOH in 2007 and have been part of this life changing ministry for the last 15 years. During my tenure I have witnessed the restoration of countless broken lives as we have assisted the church in Zimbabwe to fulfill God’s mandate to help vulnerable children. I am humbled and honored to share briefly about the joy of serving God and children under Hands of Hope.

In 2001, a friend introduced me to Pastor Matatu at Highfield Nazarene Church. Pastor Timothy and his wife Irene were enthusiastic about their ministry which they called, “The Hands and Feet of Love.” Zimbabwe was in the middle of a devastating AIDS pandemic in which the stigma and discrimination of AIDS patients was often more painful than the sickness. So, against that background the church began reaching out to the terminally ill and supporting their children. I started to get more involved and a year later, I became a youth leader and a Sunday school teacher. We mobilized volunteers for the work from the church and community. The network of workers broadened when we met Pastor Glen. We started a feeding center for orphans in 2003 in partnership with HOH and began feeding 50 children which grew to 200 children every day.

In 2007, two remarkable things happened, I married the love of my life, Virginia, and joined Hands of Hope as a full-time worker. The Lord has blessed us with two boys, Masimba and Muku and on April 25th this year we welcomed our daughter, Makanaka into our family.

On August 1, 2022, I will assume new responsibilities as HOH National Director. Over the years, HOH has developed tremendous leadership capacity among its staff. The new responsibility I am stepping into is just like captaining a star-studded team with a great coaching department. Our Ministry team of Blessed, Hellen and Stewart exudes passion and diligence. Brother Collins and John are sure footed in finances. Tinaye and the Habitation of Hope camp team are breaking new ground and are in top form. There is great eagerness and anticipation as we endeavor to continue to fulfill the mission and vision of Hands of Hope. I thank God for the overwhelming support I received from our church partners when they got the news of my appointment. Together, by the grace of God and His guidance, we can embrace the promise of hope we find in scripture and be beacons of light to children at risk.”
