“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.”
Prov. 9:10
Several years ago, we began to partner with Borrowdale Community Church and the HOH Otter Home was established. Currently the home has 11 children - 9 girls and 2 boys. The home has two caregivers and a resident Social Worker who also serves as the Home Director. Patty and I once held Sarah, Kendra, Judith, Panashe, and Lucia in our arms. As you can see, they are growing up and the dresses that they are wearing were made by them over recent school holidays. Four sewing machines were donated for their use and both their caregivers at Otter are skilled in sewing and use their extra time to teach the girls how to sew.
This year the Otter Home embarked on self-help projects to help the children develop skills that they wouldn’t ordinarily get from the primary schools. Besides sewing they have learned how to make detergents, and over the holidays they also went to a farm, shelled maize (corn) and other diverse agricultural activities. The caregivers worked with them as they carried out the work that the children were assigned. The farmer also pledged to provide one hectare (2.5 acres) of land for other projects in the future.
Kendra`s (second girl on the left) mother passed away, and her father`s whereabouts is currently not known. Kendra is very friendly, loves sports, and the Word of God. She has a remarkable interest in hairdressing, cooking, and enjoys working with her hands. She is a good student, and her teachers love her passion for learning.
HOH is committed to bringing up the children that our Lord has entrusted to us through local Zimbabwe Churches in the fear and admonition of our sovereign Lord. Your generous support makes this a reality.
