Education

Since Hands of Hope was formed in 2001, our Mission has not changed:

We exist to communicate the love of Christ to orphans by partnering with local churches and assisting the body of Christ in meeting the needs of orphans - body, soul and spirit.

In addition to providing basic needs such as food and clothing, we believe providing an opportunity for education for children is an important component of that mission.

Below are several areas where, by God’s grace, we have seen that aspect starting to become a reality.

Rugare Bridging School

Just Southwest of Harare, this relatively poor area is home to two Hands of Hope homes, and now a location of a Hands Of Hope sponsored bridging school. It is common for students to miss multiple years of public school, so environments like this will assist in “bridging” the kids to where they should be.

Chipo (pictured above) graduated with a teaching degree in 2019, and graciously agreed to take on the role of Lead Teacher, along with two assistant teachers. They currently have two rooms, and about 30 students that meet as three separate groups. They meet three times per week, for two hours at a time.

Hands of Hope partners with the Christ for Salvation Education Project in Chegutu, south of Harare. Orphans who have shown academic promise in secondary school education have been supported for several years through generous donations to Hands of Hope. Their progress is closely monitored and the students are visited on a regular basis by HoH representatives.

St. Francis High School, Chegutu

The education project supports students at St Francis High School in Chegutu, usually less than 10 at a time.

Mt. St. Mary’s, Wedza

Students who have done very well at St. Francis High School have transferred to Mt St Mary’s, a Catholic Boarding school in the Wedza area. Currently, five students are being supported there.

Students who pass their A level (university entrance) exams will apply for tertiary education in one of several universities in Zimbabwe. Hand of Hope will continue to support students who are showing good progress. Next year we expect to have two students (Tonnex and Christopher) in university.

One student (Leon) at New Hope College Secondary School did very well at A level in 2021, and has elected to train as an Air Traffic Controller. HoH will support him once he is accepted into the program.

Finally, several other students have been approved for skills training, and will be taking further courses in specific areas.

The entire Hands of Hope organization is so excited to see what God is doing in the lives of these kids, including through their education. We are extremely thankful for the spirit of generosity that He has given to the many people who support this effort financially and through prayer.

‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord,

‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.’
