Hands of Hope House Mothers
The month of March in Zimbabwe is dedicated to celebrating women! They are the heroines who have labored faithfully in the ministry of, rescuing children from danger and placing them in loving care. This past March we highlighted our longest standing “Housemother.” Mrs. Josie Mutingwende, has been a pillar of hope and transformation for countless girls. Mrs. Mutingwende began serving as the Home Director of Westgate Haven Girls Home in 2003. Over the years, she has nurtured more than 50 girls, guiding them from preschool age into adulthood.
When her church Calvary Baptist asked her to lead Westgate Haven, she prayed and felt the Lord directing her into this ministry. Her greatest joy is releasing a child back into the community equipped with education and livelihood skills that enable them to care for themselves. Westgate Haven’s goal is for the children to know the Lord and grow in Him. This does not happen by accident but is accomplished through devotions, Bible studies, and active church life.
It is encouraging to note that, contrary to the stigma that girls raised in homes lack morals, Mrs. Mutingwende has changed the narrative. Young women are now married and building strong families of their own. This is a testament to the brilliant work she and her staff are doing in shaping the lives of girls who come from hard places. Her hope is that every child raised at Westgate Haven will grow in the Lord and extend compassion to other vulnerable girls.
The greatest gift our HOH homes offer is the love of Christ. This month, Margaret and Haildel from Westgate Haven chose to follow Christ in baptism. It is a profound joy to witness children making the personal decision to walk with Christ.
I have just returned from Zimbabwe and had the privilege of taking our Valley Church Vacation Bible School Team of 15 to Westgate Haven to meet these precious children. Lives are being transformed because of your faithful support. Thank you!
