The RACHEL Workshop

Introduction

Aiming to provide an intense improvement on children’s education in our bridging schools, a two-day teacher training workshop was conducted at Rugare Orphan Care Organisation (ROCO) with the introduction of the RACHEL device.  RACHEL is used both inside and outside the classroom to improve access to learning in hundreds of offline communities around the world. Rugare will be our pilot project for this particular movement.

Objectives

The objectives of the training workshop were:

·      To introduce the RACHEL device to the Rugare bridging school team

·      To educate them on how to use the device and enhance their learning environment for the betterment of their education.

·      To help the teachers on how to create the lessons, add content, manage the library and to feature the content.

Outcomes

Some of the quick key outcomes of the workshop:

·      The workshop provided a strong endorsement of the value and the importance of the RACHEL device. The Rugare team embraced it and they are keen and willing to take up the movement.

·      All 4 trained members are now able to create lessons, add content, manage the library and to feature the content in the RACHEL device.

·      They are ready to kick start the project just waiting for the re-opening of schools.

Recommendations

·      Just a day refresher training before they commence their learning.

·      Assisting the team on the first week of their learning using the device to offer guidance when need arise during the learning course.

Learning and discovering the offline hotspot device is taking place at the Rugare Orphan care. This is going to be our pilot RACHEL project.

We are hoping and planning to take the RACHEL movement to all our projects which are running Transformational centres as a way of enhancing their education.

The long-term strategic plan (possibly 2 year) is to have a bridging school at every Transformational centre. By so doing, the RACHEL device will be the major learning resource.
