Donhodzo Project Education Report

Hands of Hope partners with Pastor Nyemba and the Donhodzo Project in Chegutu, south of Harare. Menlo and New Community Church teams have been supporting orphans who have shown academic promise in secondary school education for several years. Curt and Christine Taylor were able to visit the schools in November, now finally reopened after the July/August lockdown. In spite of a very difficult 2 years during the pandemic, with much time out of the classroom, the students are working hard and feeling encouraged by their progress so far.  The two older boys, Tonnex and Christopher, pictured with the two girls and wonderful computer science teacher at Mt St Mary’s in Wedza, are both in leadership roles. Chris is the deputy head boy and Tonnex is prefect over all sports.

Pictured with Curt and Christine below are the three students at St Francis High School in Chegutu. Tanya, Tinashe Peter, and Panashe. Like the four at Mt St Mary’s, they were extremely happy to see us after two years and read to us from their research projects.  They are currently sitting the all-important Ordinary Level exams which will partly decide their future direction. We are praying for all the exam takers!

Leon is a boarder at New Hope College in Chegutu and now writing the university entrance exams, A (Advanced) level in arts subject. He has been doing well and is hoping to attend university, possibly considering journalism or law. Like the other students, he is deeply grateful for the opportunity to get an excellent education and is thanking God for this provision.
