Westgate Haven VBS

Champions have a great Coach, Hope, and Faith

We had a Vacation Bible School at Westgate Haven Home from the 24th to 26th of June 2020. Our aim is to partner with our homes in ministering to children spiritually and complement the work they are doing.   Also, Covid-19 lockdown period has put an extra strain on our partners as they are having children around the clock due to school closures.  Through our VBS program, we shared the word of God through storytelling, songs, skits and some group activities. I am proud to report that we had an exciting time with the Westgate girls.

Our team was impressed by how receptive the girls were to the word of God during the entire time. Also, it was a huge blessing to have Marlon and Mapesa as part of the team. Marlon is at Chinhoyi University and Mapesa is at University of Zimbabwe. Both girls are trained Youth Leaders. It was great to have the two join Blessed, Hellen and Stewart in facilitating the VBS.

We also integrated aspects of life skills in our VBS lessons and activities. It was a pleasure to see the girls demonstrating brainstorming, creative thinking, and decision-making skills.

Most of the kids proved to be confident and comfortable in communicating their views. Kudakwashe gave a splendid performance in skits, it seems Westgate Haven has a budding actor.  The role being played by senior girls in shepherding the younger girls is a distinct aspect of the home. In a group comprising of Mapesa and younger girls, it was great to see Mapesa delegating leadership of the group to Heather.

We also had Pastor Khumbu taking a leadership and psychosocial support session on the last day of the VBS. We are thankful to Westgate Haven especially Mrs Mutingwende who joined some sessions of our VBS for giving us this opportunity to serve.
