The youth leaders in our homes and transformational centers received knowledge over the weekend of August 12–14, 2022, which was productive. Young people were given children's ministry training by the Global Encounters team, which was led by Elizabeth Fox (Liz). Thirty youths who have a strong commitment to working with children in their respective communities received guidance on how to enhance their efforts in this area. They were taught Biblical principles of caring for children from hard places.
The training was packaged in such a way that it covers the following areas:
1. How to be a great story teller
Children learn better through stories than adults do, and Liz's storytelling skills are one of her strengths. She showed the kids how to convey lessons through compelling storytelling. They learned that effective storytellers can persuade, enthrall, and inspire. In fact, sharing stories can give kids a better foundation for learning. The young people gained a lot from Liz's explanation of five crucial rules for crafting great stories, which she divided into categories.
2. Class room management
Classroom management was a significant topic that was covered during the conference for young leaders. Classroom Management is a term used by teachers to describe the process of ensuring that classroom lessons run smoothly without disruptive behavior from students compromising the delivery of instruction. Therefore, the youth leaders were trained on how to manage a classroom either during a camp or on Sunday school set up.
3. Games and Craft
Children are visual beings; they learn better and faster through seeing and activity-based learning. Research shows that play can improve children's abilities to plan, organize, get along with others, and regulate emotions. It is therefore in this light that the youth leaders were equipped on how to create and facilitate different games and craft as they run their respective children’s ministry.
4. Curriculum design
Liz trained the youths on how to design the children’s curriculum as well. She demonstrated the easiest method for developing a curriculum for use in both a Sunday school setting and a week-long camp.
Some of the procedures to follow when creating a curriculum are listed below.
Prayer
Choosing the theme/title
Brainstorming
Making the idea; Understandable, Relatable, Actionable, Memorable
Making sure that the core moral is accurate.
We are really grateful of Hands of Hope USA for providing leadership training to young people who are aging out of our projects. The majority of them are developing and growing into effective youth leaders in their respective projects. We appreciate your past steadfast support.
